Brass pipe nipples, threaded NPT both ends, in 1/8" through 2" and lengths from close through 12".
Brass is specified over steel on potable water for corrosion resistance, and on any connection that may be dismantled for service, since brass threads do not seize to the same degree. All brass used on potable systems must be lead-free.
A close nipple has no unthreaded shoulder — the threads run end to end — making it the shortest joint possible between two fittings. It is also the weakest point in the assembly and cannot be gripped externally without damaging the threads. Where the geometry allows, a short nipple with a shoulder is the better part.
Length is measured overall, including both threaded ends, so a 3" nipple adds less than 3" of run once it is made up into fittings. Account for thread engagement when laying out tight assemblies.
