Shower and tub diverter valves, in-wall rough-in bodies and diverter trims, mostly 1/2" inlet.
A diverter sends water from one outlet to another — tub spout to showerhead, or between multiple shower outlets. A transfer valve is the related but different device: it can feed two outlets at once, which is what a body-spray and rain-head combination needs. Choosing a diverter where a transfer valve was intended means only one outlet ever runs.
Count outlets before ordering. Three-way and six-way diverters exist, and the number is fixed by the valve body in the wall, not by the trim on the face of it. Adding an outlet later means opening the wall.
Rough-in body and finish trim are ordered separately on most manufacturers' systems, which is what lets the valve go in during construction and the finish be chosen at the end. They must be from the same family — trim is not cross-compatible between brands or between generations.
