Drop-In Kitchen Sinks

40 drop-in kitchen sinks from Elkay (20), Dayton (17) and Franke (3), running 13" through 37" in stainless steel and granite composite.

A drop-in sits on top of the counter instead of under it, and that is what makes it the sink for a laminate top. The rim covers the cut edge, so the exposed core never sees water — which is exactly what an undermount cannot do on laminate. It is also the simpler swap: the sink comes out without touching the counter, which is why it is the usual choice in a rental or a quick kitchen refresh. The same sink is sold as a top-mount or a self-rimming sink depending on the catalogue.

Faucet holes are drilled in the sink, not the counter, and the count cannot be changed afterwards. One hole takes a single-lever faucet; two adds a soap dispenser or an air gap; three adds a side sprayer or a filtered-water tap; four covers a faucet with side spray plus one accessory. Count what is going on the deck before ordering — wrong hole count is the most common reason a drop-in gets sent back. Stocked here from 1-hole through 4-hole.

Eight ADA-compliant bowls are stocked, in the Elkay Lustertone and Celebrity lines. The bowl is deliberately shallow — 5-1/2" to 6-1/2" rather than the usual 8" to 10" — so the drain and trap run tight under the deck and leave knee clearance for a wheelchair. A standard-depth bowl in the same footprint will not make that clearance, which is why the shallow version exists rather than being a lesser product.

On stainless the gauge number runs backwards: 18 gauge is thicker than 20, and 18 is the practical floor for a kitchen bowl. Bowl layouts run single, equal double, and 60/40 where the large bowl takes the pans and the small one sits over the disposal. Bar and prep bowls run 15" to 19". Elkay's Perfect Drain models move the drain opening off-centre and flush with the bowl floor so water clears without a puddle. The Dayton DW10233224 ships as a 10-pack for multi-unit work.

Franke's Maris Topmount brings granite composite — quartz dust in resin — to the drop-in format in 25" and 33", which hides scratches and water spotting the way brushed stainless does not.
