Basket Strainers

This collection covers kitchen sink basket strainers and grid strainers from American Standard, BK Products, Blanco, Dearborn, Elkay, Jomar and Mountain Plumbing Products. It includes 3-1/2 to 4 inch strainers, spin-and-seal and push-and-seal designs, and color-coordinated metal strainers, in chrome, stainless and black finishes.

Standard kitchen sinks use a 3-1/2 inch drain opening, so check the opening and the sink thickness before ordering. Decide between a basket that stops water for soaking and a simple grid strainer. Seal the flange with plumber's putty or the supplied gasket as directed, and match the finish to the sink and faucet.

Popular replacements include the Franke 906 and 906SN universal strainer baskets, Elkay LK35, LK99 and LK18 drain fittings, Dearborn 14, 15 and 17 stainless strainers, Jomar Snap-Tite and Twist-N-Loc baskets, Mountain Plumbing MT300 and MT303 strainers in designer finishes, and Blanco color-coordinated metal strainers. For bar sinks, the Dearborn 3784 Junior Duo is a smaller strainer, and the Elkay LK99FC is made for fireclay sinks.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a kitchen sink basket strainer?

Most kitchen sinks have a 3-1/2" drain opening, and most strainers here are sized for it. Bar and prep sinks often use a smaller opening, so measure before ordering.

Should I use plumber's putty or the gasket?

Follow the instructions for the strainer and the sink. Some sinks, such as composite and stone, call for a gasket or silicone rather than putty.

Can I replace only the basket?

Yes, if the body is in good shape. Replacement baskets and stoppers such as the Franke 906 fit specific strainer bodies, so check the brand and model of the sink drain.
