Brass threaded fittings for potable water, air and general service. Sizes 1/8" through 2" and larger, in FIP, FIP x MIP and MIP patterns, with AWWA thread available for water service work.
Brass is chosen over steel here for corrosion resistance and machinability rather than strength, and over plastic where the joint has to be taken apart repeatedly or exposed to heat. Anything installed on a potable line must be lead-free under federal law, so check the marking — the visual difference between lead-free and legacy brass is nil.
Dezincification is the failure mode to design against. In acidic or high-chloride water, zinc leaches out of ordinary brass over years and leaves a porous copper structure that eventually fails under pressure. DZR (dezincification-resistant) alloy solves it and is worth specifying where local water is known to be aggressive.
