M12 batteries fit every tool on Milwaukee's M12 platform. They slide up into the tool handle instead of clipping underneath it, which is what keeps M12 tools narrow enough to work inside a cabinet or between joists.
CP is the Compact Pack, the short pack that keeps the tool light and the handle short. XC is Extended Capacity — a longer pack with more cells and more runtime, and one that gives the tool a foot to stand on when you set it down.
HIGH OUTPUT packs deliver more current and run cooler under load, for the tools that draw hardest on the platform.
Capacities here run from CP2.0 and CP2.5 through XC3.0, XC4.0, XC5.0 and XC6.0.
