Center drain or end drain decides where the plumbing comes up. A center-drain tub needs the waste line in the middle of the footprint; an end-drain tub puts it at one end, which is usually what an alcove conversion already has. Check it against the existing rough-in before ordering, because a freestanding tub cannot be shifted the way an alcove tub can.
A freestanding tub needs its own filler. There is no deck to mount a spout on, so the supply comes from a floor-mounted or wall-mounted tub filler, bought separately — see Freestanding Tub Valves.
The skirt is the finished outer shell. These ship with it in place, so the tub is complete on delivery and does not need a surround built around it.
