Freestanding Tub Valves

Rough-in valves and mounting systems for floor-mount freestanding tub fillers from Brizo, Delta, Axor, Grohe, Moen and American Standard.

A freestanding tub has no deck to carry a faucet, so the filler stands on the floor beside it and the supply comes up through the slab or the joist bay. The rough-in position is fixed before the tub is set and cannot be moved afterward, so take the dimension from the specific filler's template and the specific tub's footprint, not from a standard.

The rough-in valve is a separate purchase from the visible filler, as with shower trim, and it has to match the filler's brand and family. Several roughs here come with stop valves: the Brizo R70100-WS and R70200-WS, the Delta Trinsic R4700-FLWS and the American Standard R950SS with screwdriver stops. Stops let the valve be serviced without shutting off the house, and on a floor-mounted filler that is the difference between a routine cartridge change and lifting the tub. The Moen TS50200 is a double-riser floor mounting system.

Freestanding fillers need more flow than a deck faucet to fill a large tub in reasonable time, so check the required supply pressure against what the house actually delivers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the rough-in valve included with a freestanding tub filler?

Usually not. The rough-in valve and the visible tub filler are sold separately and have to come from the same brand and family.

Why choose a rough-in with stop valves?

Built-in stops let the filler be serviced without shutting off water to the whole house.
