Escutcheons

Escutcheons, floor and ceiling plates: the trim rings that cover the opening where pipe passes through a wall, floor or ceiling.

Depth is the specification that decides whether one works. A shallow escutcheon sits nearly flat and covers a neat hole; a deep flange escutcheon has a raised skirt and covers a ragged or oversized opening that a shallow one leaves visible. On a retrofit, measure the actual opening before ordering — this is the single most common return in the category.

Sizing follows the pipe, and the pipe standard matters: CTS (copper tube size) and IPS (iron pipe size) escutcheons of the same nominal number have different bores and are not interchangeable.

Split (hinged) versions exist for pipe already installed, so the trim can go on without breaking a joint.

Floor and ceiling plates do the same job on vertical risers, and in a fire-rated assembly the escutcheon is cosmetic only — the penetration still needs a listed firestop behind it.

Brands include Pasco, Sioux Chief, Dearborn and Delta.
