54 valve-only shower trims — Moen (26), Delta (12), Hansgrohe (12), Grohe (3) and Brizo (1). 20 of them carry an integrated diverter or transfer valve. Finishes run chrome, brushed and polished nickel, matte black, stainless, oil rubbed bronze and brushed gold.
Valve-only trim means handle and escutcheon, and nothing else. No showerhead, no tub spout, no arm. It is what you buy when the head is staying and the handle is being replaced, when the shower already has a separate rain head or handheld fed from a diverter, or when the head is being specified separately. If you want the whole visible assembly in one box, that is a shower trim kit instead.
Trim fits one valve platform, and the same brand is not the same platform. Moen alone runs three incompatible ones on this page: Posi-Temp (15), Moentrol (5) and M-CORE 3-Series (2). Posi-Temp is pressure balance and nothing more — one handle, temperature only. Moentrol puts volume control on the same handle, so flow can be throttled without moving the temperature. M-CORE is the newer platform and needs an M-CORE valve behind it. Delta runs Monitor 13, 14 and 17 Series (12 here) and Hansgrohe runs Ecostat (12). A Moentrol trim on a Posi-Temp valve does not fit, and finding that out means the tile is already up.
Pressure balance is scald protection, not temperature control, and the difference matters. The cartridge holds the ratio between hot and cold when the pressure on one side drops — somebody flushes a toilet, the cold side loses pressure, the valve throttles the hot side to match and the shower does not scald. What it does not do is hold a number. If the water heater output drifts, or the incoming cold changes with the season, the shower temperature drifts with it and you re-aim the handle. A thermostatic valve holds a setpoint; a pressure balance valve holds a ratio. Most residential code requires one or the other on a shower.
A diverter and a transfer valve are not the same part. A diverter sends the water to one outlet at a time — head, or handheld, or body sprays. A transfer valve lets two run together. Delta's integrated diverter trims come in 3-setting and 6-setting versions and Moen's transfer trims are labelled as such; the setting count is how many outlet combinations the handle can reach, so a 6-setting trim on a two-outlet shower is paying for positions that do not exist. Standalone diverter valve trims are stocked separately for showers where the diverter is its own handle.
Confirm the rough-in before ordering, every time. The valve in the wall decides the trim, not the other way round, and on anything that is not new construction the only reliable way to know is to pull the existing handle and escutcheon and read the cartridge or the valve body. Ordering trim off a photograph of the old handle is how this category generates returns.
Two-handle trims here are the integrated diverter and transfer models; everything else is single handle. Commercial work has its own line — Moen's T8360 3-function transfer trim ships with a lever handle, which is what accessible and institutional specs usually call for.
Valve trims sit alongside shower trim kits, tub-shower trim sets, rough-in valves, shower heads and escutcheons.
