SharkBite joints need no tool, no solder and no crimp ring: the tube is pushed in, a stainless grab ring holds it and an O-ring seals it. They work on a wet line, which is why they are the standard emergency repair fitting.
Three preparation steps decide whether the joint lasts. Cut the tube square, deburr it, and push to the full insertion depth — the depth mark on the fitting exists for that. A burr slices the O-ring and produces a leak weeks later rather than immediately, which is the hardest kind to trace.
They work on copper, PEX and CPVC. PEX needs a stiffener insert; SharkBite fittings for PEX ship with it already fitted, but a tube cut back and reinserted needs it checked.
The disconnect clip releases the joint and makes the fitting reusable. Most models are listed for concealed installation, though some jurisdictions restrict push fittings behind finished surfaces — confirm locally before closing a wall.
Bodies are lead-free brass.
