A trim set is not a valve. It is the visible half of the assembly: handle, escutcheon, spout and showerhead. Behind the wall it needs a rough-in valve body, sold separately, and the trim only fits its own manufacturer's valve family. Moen trim goes on Moen Posi-Temp or M-PACT, Delta trim goes on Delta MultiChoice. Ordering trim without first confirming what rough-in is already in the wall is the most common way this category goes wrong, and on a remodel it is the one thing you cannot check after the tile is up. If the head is staying and only the handle is being replaced, a valve-only trim is the cheaper part.

37 of the sets that publish a flow rate are 1.75 GPM and 58 carry WaterSense. Several states cap shower flow below the federal 2.5 GPM, so on a job in California, Colorado, New York or Washington the flow number is a compliance question, not a preference. 45 sets are listed ADA compliant, which on a trim set is about the handle: lever operation without tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist.

Finish naming is not standardised between manufacturers. Brushed nickel, spot resist brushed nickel and stainless are three different finishes that photograph almost identically, and they do not match each other in the same bathroom. Order the whole room from one finish name, not from one colour family.
