Adjustable floor and shower drains are the volume item here, and the reason is the tolerance they buy: the strainer height sets independently of the drain body, so the finished floor can land anywhere within the adjustment range without the rough being perfect. Fixed drains give no such margin.
Sizes run 1-1/4" through 4", with 1-1/2" the most common. Connection is mostly solvent weld, with no-hub, hub and push-joint versions stocked for cast iron and retrofit work.
On cleanouts, the code requirement is access, not just presence — a cleanout buried behind finished wall or under a fixture fails inspection even though the fitting is correct. Check the cover material against the floor finish: nickel bronze for exposed, plastic where it will be covered.
