Frequently asked questions

What does a backwater valve do?

A backwater valve lets wastewater flow out of the building but closes if the sewer backs up, so sewage cannot come back in through floor drains and low fixtures. Match the valve to the pipe size and material, such as 2" ABS.

Why support an expansion tank with a bracket?

A thermal expansion tank full of water is heavy, and hanging it from the water heater piping puts that weight on the fittings. A bracket such as the Sioux Chief 598-023 carries the tank so the piping does not have to.

F1807 crimp or F1960 expansion PEX fittings?

They are different systems with different tools. F1807 fittings are crimped with a copper or stainless ring; F1960 fittings need expansion PEX tubing and an expansion tool. Match the fitting to the system already installed. See F1807 crimp fittings.
