CPVC is chlorinated PVC, and the extra chlorine is what raises its temperature rating to 180°F — the reason it is approved for hot water distribution where ordinary PVC is not. Sizing is CTS, copper tube size, so CPVC dimensions match copper rather than PVC schedule.
The cement is CPVC-specific and is not interchangeable with PVC cement. A PVC-cemented CPVC joint looks correct and fails once hot water runs through it.
CPVC is more brittle than PVC, especially below freezing, and it needs more support: check the manufacturer's hanger spacing, which is closer than for copper and closer still at temperature.
Chemical compatibility is the failure people do not anticipate. Some spray foams, thread sealants, firestop compounds and even certain tapes attack CPVC and cause cracking months later. Confirm any product that will touch the pipe is listed as CPVC-compatible.
