Gruvlok grooved mechanical fittings and couplings for fire protection, HVAC and industrial piping. Sizes 2" through 12", in painted carbon steel, galvanized, 304 and 316 stainless.
A grooved joint is made by rolling or cutting a groove near the pipe end, seating a gasket over the gap and bolting a two-piece housing around it. It goes together far faster than welding or flanging on large diameters, needs no hot work permit, and can be taken apart for service — which is why it dominates riser and mechanical-room piping.
Rigid and flexible couplings are not the same product. Flexible couplings allow angular deflection and absorb thermal movement and vibration; rigid couplings do not and are required where the system must behave as a solid assembly. Mixing them incorrectly shows up as noise and stressed joints.
Gasket compound must match the medium and temperature. EPDM (green) is the standard for water and is not suitable for petroleum service.
