Pipe Nipples

455 threaded nipples in black iron, red brass, galvanized steel and 304 stainless. Sizes run 1/8" through 4", concentrated where the work is: 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2" and 2". Lengths start at Close and step by half an inch through 6", then continue at 8", 10" and 12", with cut lengths to 72" for longer runs.

Material follows the service. Black iron is the standard for natural gas and propane. Red brass is the potable-water choice and resists the corrosion that pits steel. Galvanized handles air, non-potable water and general utility work. 304 stainless, Schedule 40, goes where the fluid or the environment would attack anything else.

Two things to check before ordering. The size is nominal pipe size and the length is measured overall, threads included, so a 3" nipple gives less than 3" of usable run once it is made up into two fittings. And a close nipple is threaded end to end with no wrench flat, which means it needs a nipple wrench or an internal pipe wrench to install or remove without crushing the walls.
