Propane Tankless Water Heaters

Propane tankless water heaters give homes off the natural gas main the same continuous hot water as a gas-fired unit. This collection includes dedicated LP models from Rheem, Noritz and Navien, plus field-convertible units such as the Navien NPE-2 and Rheem IKONIC series that can be set up for propane or natural gas.

Propane carries more energy per cubic foot than natural gas, so supply lines are often smaller, but the tank and regulator must keep up with the heater's full input. A 199,900 Btu/h unit burns a little over 2 gallons of propane per hour at full fire, so confirm your tank size and second-stage regulator before ordering. Never run a natural gas unit on propane without the manufacturer's conversion.

Condensing models (0.93 to 0.96 UEF) vent through PVC or polypropylene and use less fuel, which matters when propane is billed by the gallon. Non-condensing models need stainless venting. Size by GPM: add up the fixtures that run at once and compare each unit's flow at your winter temperature rise. Our tankless water heater sizing guide explains the math.
