PVC sewer and drain pipe in 4" and 6", in 10', 14' and 20' lengths, solvent weld and gasket joint.
Sewer and drain pipe is not the same product as Schedule 40 DWV, and the difference matters at inspection. It is thinner-walled, manufactured to ASTM D2729 or F891 rather than D1785, and is approved only for gravity drainage outside the building — the run from the house to the main, footing drains, and storm. It is not rated for pressure and not permitted inside.
Gasket joint versus solvent weld is a field decision. Gasketed pipe assembles wet and cold, tolerates slight movement, and goes together far faster in a trench; solvent weld makes a rigid joint and needs dry, above-freezing conditions and clean surfaces. In a wet trench, solvent cement will not bond.
Bedding decides whether the pipe survives. Thin-wall pipe carries its load through the surrounding material, not through its own stiffness, so it needs uniform granular bedding and haunching — laid on rock or backfilled with clods, it deflects and eventually flattens.
Slope is 1/4" per foot for 4" sanitary; too steep is a real fault, because the water outruns the solids and the line clogs.
