A storage tank is not a water heater. It has no burner and no element — heat comes from an external source through a coil or a circulated loop, which is what makes it the right vessel behind a boiler, a heat pump, a solar array or a high-recovery commercial heater. Separating storage from heating lets a small, efficient heat source cover a large draw.
Size to peak demand, not to daily volume. A building that uses 300 gallons a day spread evenly needs far less storage than one that uses 150 gallons in a twenty-minute morning peak.
Check the physical envelope before ordering: diameters here run 24" to 36" and heights 58" to 80", and a tank that clears the doorway may still not clear the ceiling once it is upright. Connections are 1-1/2" through 3" MIP or NPT.
