Mueller Streamline A 11214NL is a 1-1/2" union in cast copper alloy, C x MPT (C = sweat socket (takes the tube), MPT = male pipe thread).

A union can be taken apart without cutting the line, so equipment such as a pump, water heater or valve can be removed for service.

This is a cast copper-alloy solder-joint fitting, the construction used for shapes that are not formed from wrot tube, such as unions, drop-ear elbows and threaded adapters. It solders to copper tube the same way as a wrot fitting; on potable water lines use a lead-free solder and flux.
