Mueller Streamline 591-045 is a 4" x 4-1/2" nipple in black steel.

A nipple is a short length of pipe threaded on both ends; the first figure is the pipe size and the second the overall length, threads included.

Black steel nipples are cut from Schedule 40 pipe and threaded NPT on both ends. They join black malleable iron fittings on gas, steam, air and sprinkler lines, and are the usual way to space a valve, union or regulator off a fitting.
