Woodford freezeless yard hydrants for outdoor water where pipes must run below the frost line. The collection includes Model X34 and Model Y34 yard hydrants in bury depths from 1 foot to 6 feet, with a 3/4" inlet.
Choose a bury depth that puts the valve below your local frost line. Yard hydrants drain through a weep hole when shut off, so set them in a bed of gravel for drainage. Check whether your jurisdiction requires a sanitary or backflow-protected model, and add a vacuum breaker on the hose outlet where needed.
A frost free yard hydrant keeps its valve deep in the ground, below the frost line. Lifting the handle opens the valve and water rises through the standpipe; closing it lets the water left in the pipe drain out through a weep hole, so nothing stays above ground to freeze. That is why the drainage bed matters: without gravel around the base, the weep hole cannot drain and the hydrant can freeze. Worn plungers and packing are the usual repair, and those parts are in hydrant repair parts. For outdoor faucets on the house wall, see hose bibbs.
