Viega 25585 is a 1" x 3/4" MegaPress female adapter, P x FPT (P = press end for IPS steel pipe; FPT = female pipe thread).

An adapter makes the change from press to a female pipe thread, for a valve, fixture connection or threaded equipment.

Viega MegaPress presses directly onto black iron / carbon steel pipe, so steel lines go together without threading, welding or grooving. The EPDM version is for closed water systems such as hydronic heating and chilled water, and for compressed air. For natural gas or propane use MegaPressG.
