The Caleffi 548098A is a 1-1/2" hydro separator (hydraulic separator) with sweat union connections, used to hydraulically decouple primary and secondary circuits in hydronic heating and cooling systems.

A hydro separator creates a low-pressure-drop zone between the boiler or chiller loop and the distribution circuits, so each circulator operates independently without interfering with the others. Caleffi hydro separators also help separate air and dirt from the system water, making them a compact alternative to closely spaced tees in multi-zone and multi-boiler systems.
