Zone Dampers

Honeywell Home TrueZONE dampers split one forced-air system into zones, each controlled by its own thermostat.

Rectangular parallel blade dampers (ZD series) are sized to the duct, width by height in inches, from 6 x 6 in upward. Order the damper to the inside duct dimension so it fits without transitions. Each damper connects to a TrueZONE zone panel, which opens and closes the dampers on each thermostat's call.

When only one small zone calls, the blower is still moving air for the whole house. A bypass damper relieves that excess static pressure, and it is sized with the zone dampers, not after.

Frequently asked questions

How do I size a rectangular zone damper?

Measure the inside width and height of the duct and order that size. For example, a ZD10X16TZ fits a 10 x 16 in duct.

Do I need a bypass damper?

Often, yes. When a small zone calls on its own, the blower still moves air for the whole house, and a bypass damper relieves that extra static pressure. Size it together with the zone dampers.

Can I replace just the damper motor?

Yes. The Honeywell Home M847D-ZONE replacement motor fits ARD and ZD dampers, so a failed motor can be swapped without cutting the damper out of the duct.
