A fan center is what lets a low-voltage thermostat run a line-voltage blower. The transformer makes the 24 V control power, the relay carries the blower current, and both live in a box that mounts on the furnace or air handler instead of being assembled from loose parts.

SPDT contacts give a normally open and a normally closed set from the same relay, so the same fan center can run a blower on a call and drop a damper or an interlock at the same time.
