Everything installed before the wall closes: stub-out elbows, washing machine and ice maker outlet boxes, sleeves, tub and shower rough-in valves, firestop, thread sealant, solvent cement and fitting brushes.
Rough-in is where mistakes get expensive, because correcting them means opening finished work. Set stub-out height and spacing from the fixture's rough-in dimension sheet rather than from a standard, since those dimensions vary between models in the same manufacturer's line. Confirm the trim you intend to use is compatible with the valve body before it goes in the wall.
Solvent cement is specific to the pipe material and the ambient temperature: ABS, PVC and CPVC each take a different formulation, and low-VOC and cold-weather versions are not interchangeable with the standard grade. Thread sealant is stocked in quart, pint and gallon.
Brands include Sioux Chief, Oatey, Mill Rose, HoldRite and Weld-On.
